What is Adobe Acrobat?
Adobe Acrobat is a technology created by Adobe Systems that allows complex formatted documents created on one computer system to be read and printed on other different systems with the original fonts, formatting and graphic elements intact. Adobe Acrobat enables you to convert documents to portable document format (.pdf). You would convert files to PDF if you wanted to post them on your Web site or to send them via e-mail while preserving the format, look and feel of the documents. Acrobat enables people to view the files even if they don’t own the software you used to create them, and Acrobat has features that can ensure against copying or tampering with the document. Converting documents into PDF files allows data files created on one software platform (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, etc.) to be displayed and printed on another, without loss of text formatting. Adobe Acrobat uses a totally general purpose computing language, PostScript, for printing files. PDF files print so true to the original that even the IRS uses Acrobat to distribute tax forms from its Web site. Users must download the free Acrobat Reader in order to view .pdf files
